School Pupils
The education of the school population of Zakynthos and generally in Greece, is one of the primary objectives of the environmental actions of the Agency. Along with the cultivation of their environmental culture through their contact with the environment, the students become activated into a different perception and attitudes on environmental aspects of their island. For this purpose, the Agency organizes daily programs of educational visit of students in Primary and Secondary Education.
More particularly, within the framework of the Agency's program, the following actions are included:
• daily thematic training program adapted to the age and learning level of children in primary school (film projection, crafts, trips to the Exhibition Center and areas of N.M.P.Z.)
• daily training program for the third, fourth and fifth class of high school. The program will include hiking trails, providing information on the biology and importance of species and habitats of the route to be determined, together with volunteer work (cleaning habitats from litter, improving access channels). The program ends with a visit to the exhibition center, where working groups will state their problems and solutions in the areas visited.
• training program for the first two classes of high school in the classrooms, presenting the protected species and habitats in the region of NMPZ. The program will end with co-organization of events, with the participation of primary and secondary education of Zakynthos, the participating schools and the of NMPZ.
With the implementation of these actions people gain knowledge on the significance of the protected area of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, by encouraging students to deal with environmental issues. At the same time the work of the Management Agency is facilitated, concerning the protection and conservation of protected species and habitats in the region.
